Spring Affair
Spring is officially here! And although it’s freezing cold in many places, we can still switch up our makeup. I love curating these seasonal edits; it’s so much fun pulling out some old beauty products I haven’t used in a while and adding some new ones to create the perfect look, here are my picks!
70’s revival
This spring I’ve decided to draw inspiration from 70’s makeup. Looking back at photos of Cher, Donna Summer, and my mom, I thought about how fearless women were with their everyday makeup. There were lots of bright, bold colors, especially on the eyes. Cher wore a lot of pinks and reds at that time, and I just love that look. The perfect palette to recreate it is Clarins 4-Color Eyeshadow Palette in 07 Lovely Rose. For swatches check out my Clarins post. The shades are stunning and ideal for spring.
The Chanel Ombre Premiere Longware Eyeshadow in Desert Rouge is a beauty. It’s a rusty, warm red with pearl shimmer. I love a good red, it’s a color associated with fall and winter but can still work in the spring or summer by keeping the rest of the makeup minimal.
If you’re wondering about the Glossier Lidstar, I’ve decided to pass on those. The swatches look pretty, but I’m just not enthused. For a cream shadow option, I recommend the RMS Beauty Eye Polishes. I have the shade Imagine, a beautiful glossy purple good for all seasons.
Sun-Kissed Cheeks
I love a vibrant, healthy flush in the springtime. I find the best way to achieve that look is by using a liquid blush. My top pick is Daniel Sandler Watercolour Liquid Blush in Rose Glow. I discovered this through Pixiwoo, Sam raved about it and I can see why. It gives such a gorgeous color and luminosity to the cheeks.
It’s definitely a cross between a blush and highlighter. And it contains Jojoba and Vitamin E, so it’s nourishing for the skin. It’s also waterproof, if you live in a hot climate you would love this blush.
Another option is the Glossier Cloud Paints. I have Puff and Beam; both spring appropriate. The consistency is light and comfortable. They have fantastic color payoff too. And finally, the Becca Beach Tints, I love these because they can be used on the cheeks and lips. The application is nice and smooth, and a little goes a long way. All you need is one dot on each cheek for a gorgeous flush.
Popsicle Lips
I love juicy, stained lips for Spring. You can eat a popsicle and call it a day, or just get a tinted lip balm. I have a few options for you. First, Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub and Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm. I like to use these together, it softens my lips and enhances its natural color.
I’ve also been loving the Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector. It’s moisturizing and has great staying power for a lip balm. For an affordable option, the Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Sweet Violet is surprisingly not sheer. It’s glossy and leaves a lovely berry stain.
Fuchsia Fever
This spring I want some fuchsia on my nails. It’s a color I don’t wear too often. I fell in love with the dress Daniela Vega (A Fantastic Woman) wore to the Oscars, and I had to get that color on me someway, somehow. Turns out I have quite a few nail polishes in that same hue. First, Zoya Kieko, a lovely berry with an opaque finish. Similar to Kieko is Deborah Lippmann Between the Sheets, a cult classic fuchsia.
Next is OPI Manicurist of Seville, a pretty, feminine shade. It reminds me of sangria or crushed berries. And finally, Essie’s DJ Play That Song. It’s a vivid plum; there’s something about it that reminds me of that spring 70’s vibe. It dries matte, so I use a glossy top coat with it. All these shades are absolutely gorgeous and will make your nails look like little flower buds. It’s spring, why not?
Masculine florals
I know, I know, a floral scent? For spring? Groundbreaking. Personally, I’m not big on florals unless they have a masculine twist and Tom Ford does that very well. My first pick is Fleur de Portofino; it’s bright and fresh. There’s a bit of richness from the honey and musk. I see why it’s marketed as unisex; it’s a bold take on your average floral. Next is Stella by Stella McCartney, an old favorite of mine. It’s still like being in a garden, but the amber and woody notes warm it up. It’s timeless, great for any season really.
My favorite of the bunch is Miu Miu L’Eau Rosée. I got my hands on a sample and fell in love. It’s sweeter and fruitier than the others. It has peach, pear, and blackcurrant which I love, along with sandalwood, musk, and vanilla. L’Eau Rosée is a youthful floral, but there’s an element of sophistication as well.
