The Fall Edit | 2018

Olive, Merlot & Francesco Scavullo

The Fall Beauty Edit | 2018

It’s time for the Fall Beauty Edit! I love seasonal edits; they’re a great way to revamp your makeup wardrobe. It helps me get the most out of my collection and be more creative. Fall is a time I like to turn it up a notch while staying true to my style, which means using multi-purpose products. This year I drew inspiration from many places.

The first being Lisa Eldridge’s Kate Bosworth Makeup Look Tutorial. It was an autumnal look; she did a berry metallic lip that was phenomenal. Another inspiration was Tom Ford’s Spring 2019 Fashion Show, Diane Kendal was the makeup artist, and the looks were 70’s inspired. It made me look back on the makeup of the late 70’s and early 80’s, and I thought about Margaux Hemingway. She was on the cover of many of my mom’s magazines growing up, then two words popped inside my head: Francesco Scavullo.

Scavullo Women

The Fall Beauty Edit | 2018

In case you’re not familiar, Francesco Scavullo is a legend. He was a famous fashion photographer and his portraits are breathtaking. He’s photographed Elizabeth Taylor, Donna Summer, Brooke Shields and more. I have an old copy of his book Scavullo Women. It’s falling apart, but going through the pages and looking at the model’s makeup made me feel inspired. The women all range from different race and age. It’s a wonderful book about beauty and it’s full of great tips too!

Way Bandy’s makeup looks were insane; he was the king. There was a lot of makeup going on back then. A lot of cheek, a lot of eye, a lot of everything. I decided to comb through my stash and pull out items that have a vintage feel with a modern twist.

Face

Some of these items are new, and some are rediscoveries. For a do-it-all face palette, I pulled out the By Terry Sun Designer Palette in #2 Light & Tan Vibes. Sadly, I don’t think it’s available, but she has others in stock that are just as beautiful. You can do an entire look with this palette including eye shadow; it’s probably the most versatile makeup item in my entire collection.

Lisa Eldridge used the Kosas Color & Light Creme in 8th Muse in her tutorial, and I just had to have it. It’s a gorgeous cream blush and highlighter duo. It feels so light and silky and has great color payoff. This works for blush draping; you can go 80’s style bold, or apply a sheer wash for a subtle effect. It’s also infused with Rosemary Extract and Jojoba Oil. YES to makeup with skincare!

Another highlighter is the Givenchy Bouncy Highlighter Cooling Jelly Glow. This was a gift from my friend Chanelle, she and I swap makeup from time to time. I was very intrigued by the formula. It has a cooling effect, and it feels light and bouncy as the name suggests. I like to use it as an eye shadow topper as well.

Olive Eyes

The Fall Edit | 2018

I love a deep green for fall, and my favorite green eye shadow is MAC’s Sumptuous Olive. It’s described as a khaki with pearl, and it looks so beautiful on brown eyes, on any eye color really. It’s the perfect way to add a pop of color to the eyes and still look sophisticated. Another option is the Glossier Lidstar in Herb, it’s a lovely smoky green with gold pearl. It’s perfect for a subtle wash of color on the lids.

I have to mention the MAC Eye Shadow X 9 Age Ain’t Nothing Palette. If you guys have it in your collection, this is the perfect fall palette in my opinion. You have these warm rusty browns and beautiful deep gold and purple. This came out in the summer, but to me it feels like an autumnal palette.

Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner in 876 Matte Rusty

For eyeliner lovers, I highly recommend the Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner in 876 Matte Rusty. It’s a gorgeous burgundy that will give you a hint of drama without going too over the top. The formula of these eyeliners are incredible; it stays put all day. I love a good Merlot in the fall. Another great option is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Corrupt, a bronzy brown with specks of pearl.

Metallic Lips and Tips

The Fall Edit | 2018

Eyes: MAC Sumptuous Olive and Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner in 876 Matte Rusty. Cheeks: Kosas Color & Light Creme in 8th Muse. Lips: MAC Lipstick in Fluid and Ciaté London’s Liquid Chrome in Venus. Earrings: & Other Stories. Top: Reformation

Berry lips? for fall? Groundbreaking. A berry lip for fall is mandatory and my pick is NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned. It’s an easy bold lip you can add on the fly, no need for a lip liner. This fall I’m all about the metallic lip. Metallic lips were huge in the 80’s and they’re making a comeback. I rediscovered my MAC Lipstick in Fluid; it’s a deep plum brown with violet shimmer perfect for that 80’s glam look, very Jerry Hall.

The Ciaté London’s Liquid Chrome in Venus is another product Lisa Eldridge used on Kate Bosworth. It’s a warm red with a metallic finish that can be worn on its own or as a lip topper. It’s super comfortable, not sticky, and the color is stunning! I think adding a metallic gloss to amp up your regular lipsticks is a great option for fall.

An honorable mention goes to Bite Beauty Oyster Pearl Prismatic Multistick. It’s a metallic pink taupe with silver shimmer. I like to use it as an eye shadow topper. If you’re going on a night out and want that shimmery halo effect, this is perfect. Warning, you may get some fall out.

KL Polish in Princess Penny, Essie Going Incognito

KL Polish in Princess Penny

For nails, my top pick this season is KL Polish Princess Penny. I’m obsessed with this shade! It’s a gorgeous copper gold with a metallic finish that looks beautiful on the nails. I get compliments every time I wear it. If you prefer a creme finish, Essie’s Going Incognito is the perfect Kelly green that’s both modern and sophisticated.

Pour Femme

Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme Perfume

I enjoy a rich fragrance in the fall, something that will last well on my skin. For me, that’s Tom Ford’s Noir. It contains the usual suspects like vanilla and amber, which are my favorite notes. It also has bright notes like ginger and mandarin orange. It’s quite a sexy scent; very alluring. Tom Ford has it down pat in the perfume department; you can’t go wrong with any of his fragrances. If you enjoy a creamy, spicy scent for fall, this is the one.

So, what are your beauty picks for this season?
