Love at first sight
Today I’m reviewing the new limited edition Chanel Légèreté et Expérience Eyeshadow Quad (0.07 oz/$61.00). When I first saw photographs of this quad online, I thought it was some kind of makeup myth. I said to myself, “I need this in my life now.”
Légèreté et Expérience was part of the Matsuri Red Celebration Collection that was released in Japan a few months back. I’m thrilled they decided to bring it to the US in time for the holidays. This quad is available exclusively through the Chanel website.
Why I bought it
I mean, look at it, it’s gorgeous! In all seriousness, I’ve heard wonderful things about the formulation of the Les 4 Ombres shadows. This is actually my first Chanel quad; I have several of the Ombre Première shadows which are excellent so I instinctively felt that the quality would be just as good.
Many people rave about the Candeur et Experience quad, and although it’s beautiful, I never felt the desire to purchase it because even though I believe a good brown eyeshadow is essential; I would never buy a palette that mainly consists of browns. One, I have plenty of brown shadows and two, I have deep set eyes and find light colors are much more flattering on me. This quad is much more up my street.
Review
Packaging wise, it’s the standard Chanel black compact except the logo is red, very chic. They also included cute stickers ala Glossier. Légèreté et Expérience is definitely a warm neutrals quad; the obvious standout is the red shade, it’s a beautiful brick red. It also includes a soft beige, a light pretty peach, and a gorgeous cherry chocolate brown. All four shades are yummy, and I see why this would be a nice companion to the Candeur et Experience quad.
The formula of these shadows are phenomenal; they feel ultra soft and buttery, almost like velvet. They have great color payoff and blend well. The finish is matte, but there’s a slight sheen that’s hard to describe, I’d say they’re more of a satin finish. Longevity wise, I had an event after work and had no time to refresh my makeup, and my eyes looked pretty good when I got home after a 13 hour day. I use MAC’s Prep + Prime 24-Hour Extend Eye Base if you’re wondering. It’s also perfect for every day; it has great basics and a pop of color with the red.
Personally, I’ve never shied away from red eyeshadows. Done correctly it looks beautiful on the eyes and a quad like this makes it easier to pull off because the other shades complement the red so well. These colors make sense and work well together. It’s ideal for day to night looks. I’m able to create a look that’s work-appropriate and spice it up in the evenings. What I love most is that it’s a fresher and youthful take on the previous quad.
The Look
Final Verdict
I absolutely love Légèreté et Expérience. Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s luxurious, and it feels luxurious. With Chanel, I always get my money’s worth. I’m not saying all their products are winners, but the ones I’ve tried and use are. I think if you’re a lover of warm neutrals, you would enjoy this. These colors may seem ordinary to some; it’s the quality that makes them so special. I love that it’s part of my collection now and I recommend it!
