Today we’re doing a smack down on my two most used shampoos and conditioners. The Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore Shampoo (8.5oz/49.00) and Conditioner (6.8oz/$49.00) and the L’Oréal EverCreme Intense Nourishing Shampoo (8.5oz/$6.99) and L’Oréal EverCreme Intense Nourishing Conditioner (8.5oz/$6.99) I chose these two products because they offer similar claims. One being intense hydration which my hair can benefit from. I have long dry thick hair that is not color treated. To be clear, I use touch-up hair dye for those pesky gray hairs that pop up every so often, but I’ve never dyed my entire hair. Unfortunately, everything is visible with dark hair, I still like my natural color. #brunettesdoitbetter
I purchased the Oribe Gold Lust set last Christmas. Yes, Oribe is hideously expensive, but I admit these are lovely. The scent is amazing, I don’t recommend buying an expensive shampoo or conditioner for the scent, they are quite luxurious. The packaging is beautiful; they’re hands down the most beautiful bottles in my bathroom.
In terms of performance, this gives my hair volume. If you want body these are for you. I need hydration and manageability and they fall short in those areas for me. The Oribe conditioner performs very well when used as a mask. I apply it from my ears down and let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes. The texture of my hair feels softer, smoother and easier to brush. I definitely like the conditioner more than the shampoo. The shampoo is okay, but not as good as the Kerastase Cristalliste Bain Cristal for Thick Long Hair which I’ve been using for years. Coincidently Kerastase is owned by L’Oréal.
If I go for a period without using L’Oréal Shampoo and Conditioner, I miss them. My hair looks shiny and feels clean and bouncy. It nourishes without making it heavy or weighed down. It has a rich consistency and delivers plenty of moisture. My hair tangles easily, this conditioner mends that by making my hair more manageable. Overall, I like my hair better when I use this instead of the Oribe. Both conditioners have similar consistencies, but the L’Oréal shampoo is much thicker. The L’Oréal bottles are not as pretty as the Oribe, but they’re nice and simple. The scent is sweeter and less perfume-like than Oribe. Both brands are formulated without parabens or sulfates.
Are the Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and conditioner worth the price? No. Do I regret buying them? No, I enjoy using them. Would I purchase them again? No, I just don’t love them enough to pay $100 again. Would I pay that amount for the L’Oréal EverCreme Intense Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner? Yes, I would. I hope I never have to. The beauty is you don’t have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to have a quality product. I love the L’Oréal shampoo and conditioner and if they ever get discontinued I’ll cry.
