…for when I’m half asleep.
Hi guys! Today I’m going to take you through my morning makeup routine for work. It’s a pretty simple routine, but it still keeps me looking polished and sophisticated.
First, some background information, I work in the arts. I’m a full-time gallery director and curator. I work in a creative, casual environment and don’t have to dress too formal. I can wear jeans to work every day if I wanted to. For makeup, I like to keep it simple and professional, but every now and then I add a bit of edge to keep it fun.
The two-minute base
My fail safe base consists of moisturizer, eye cream, MAC Face and Body Foundation, and Glossier Stretch Concealer. I love MAC Face and Body. The formula feels light on the skin and it’s forgiving like a tinted moisturizer, but with more coverage. It’s not cakey or heavy and provides a nice glow.
The Glossier Stretch Concealer is my love. I adore this product; it goes on beautifully under the eyes, it’s brightening and hydrating. And if I overslept, I use it all over as a foundation, and I’m out the door. My favorite brush to use in hurry is the It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection Brush #7. It’s dual-ended and so soft, it makes my routine so much faster.
Easy Eyes
For eyes, the goal is to achieve a polished look, something that looks like I put forth some effort when really it just took less than five minutes. First, I the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Dark Brown. I find it’s the best brow product to use in a rush because it’s not messy. I’m spastic in the mornings, and brow gel requires a bit more precision than I’m capable of at 6:30am. When I use eyeliner, it’s usually MAC Coffee. It’s a dark brown, an almost black that goes with anything.
I LOVE eyeshadow. I know many people will skip shadow, but I feel naked without it. MAC Woodwinked, All That Glitters, and Soft Brown are easy, one swipe over the lid shades, blend and you’re done. Lately, I’ve been loving Chanel Desert Rouge. I featured it in my Spring Edit. It’s a gorgeous red; perfect for a quick, one shadow look.
For mascara, YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara in 5 Burgundy. I think color mascara can add a subtle edge to a simple eye look. There’s something special about this mascara; I have a coworker that always compliments my eyes when I wear it.
The Essentials
There are certain things that are non-negotiable. Like eyeshadow, blush is a must for me. I need that color on my cheeks otherwise I look like a zombie in the mornings. I love Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush in Flesh & Fantasy, a beautiful pink nude perfect for work. It’s not shimmery, it’s a simple, neutral blush that works with any look and brings life back to my face. When I have time I use bronzer; I alternate between Nars Laguna and Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and glow.
It’s hard for me to skip highlighter, I love it too much. The Make Dew Pot is my everyday favorite; this will not give you an ‘I can see you from outer space’ kind of highlight. It’s not Trophy Wife or Champagne Pop, but it will give you gorgeous, dewy skin that looks natural. If you love highlighter, but work in a conservative setting I highly recommend Dew Pot.
To finish, the Clarins Fix’ Make-Up Face Mist. I always make time for setting spray. This one by Clarins helps the longevity of my makeup. It hydrates my skin, it feels refreshing and wakes me up.
On the go
Finally, for lips, I usually reach for a soft pink or a nude. It depends on my mood; I grab the one I plan to wear all day and throw it my bag. I put it on in the car or train. Currently, I have NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anita. I also have Barbara and Rosecliff on rotation, along with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk.
Other handbag staples are a good lip balm and a travel-friendly fragrance. I keep the Glossier Mint Balm Dotcom at the gallery. And if I want to touch up my fragrance throughout the day, I use the Armani Si rollerball perfume. The notes include blackcurrant nectar and musk. It’s sweet and sexy, but not overpowering.
