For Dry, Natural Wavy Hair
Hope you’re all staying healthy and safe. Today, I have an older post that was on hold; it’s me talking about my recent hair care finds. These days it’s a miracle if I brush my hair; nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the read!
So I recently cut my hair and made some changes. I’ve noticed my hair is not as thick and voluminous as it used to be. Here are thoughts on the new products that have worked for me, along with some old products that still have my heart.
New to my routine
Rarely do I switched up my shampoo and conditioner. Not sure if that’s a good thing, but I believe if something works, why change it? However, I heard wonderful things about the Bounce Curl Enzyme Gentle Clarifying Shampoo. I’ve been using it for two months now, and it’s made such a difference.
I love a good clarifying shampoo. It strips away residue and product build-up leaving your scalp squeaky clean. And because I wash my hair once a week, a good detox is necessary. This shampoo leaves it fresh not dry. It’s full of beneficial ingredients like Pomegranate and Pumpkin Enzymes, Organic black seed oil, Pro-vitamin B5, Biotin, Rosemary, Nobilis flower, and other herbal plant extracts. It smells incredible and leaves my hair light and bouncy while adding volume.
Still on rotation
In terms of styling products, I still love the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer. I use this as a heat protectant and it also shields hair from sun rays, living in Miami that’s crucial. It makes my strands soft and manageable. It tames frizz, and it serves a detangler too. Prior to this, I was using the TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Leave-In Spray. I enjoy the Bumble and Bumble much more.
Next is the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Honey Moisture Deep Conditioning Mask. I know what you’re thinking, “You got it because of the packaging.” And the answer is Yep, I couldn’t resist that damn honey bear! Which is stupid because it’s a nightmare to get the product out of the bottle. I use it as a conditioner more than a mask; it makes my hair super smooth without weighing it down.
Silly bottle aside, it’s a great mask. And it smells amazing! If you’re not into sweet scents, don’t even bother, but I think it smells divine. This one was a limited edition, but I recommend researching different hair masks and finding one that suits your needs.
Hair Oils
I’ve started giving myself scalp messages prior to washing my hair. Recently I’ve noticed thinning around my temples and wanted a product that will help prevent hair loss. A friend of mine recommended the Tropic Isle Living Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil. It has 100% Pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Lemon Oil, Lavender Oil, and Pimento Oil. If you’re sensitive to any of these ingredients proceed with caution.
I love using it as a pre-shampoo treatment. It adds moisture to my dry scalp (Yes, I have a dry scalp, hair, skin – I’m a desert.) It also helps alleviate dandruff. Scalp care is something I’ve overlooked for years, and I was skeptical at first, but I’m seeing those sparse areas look a little fuller. One major factor that encouraged me to try it is that it slows down the graying process. I’m currently working on testing that claim as I want to touch up my roots less. I’ll keep you posted. #fingerscrossed
The Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil is essential for me. It’s a phenomenal product, and you only need a tiny drop. People with all types of hair praise this hair oil. I go to a salon that uses the entire Olaplex line, and I can tell you the products work. Btw my stylist is Paula Sperduto; she’s fabulous!
You can use the Bonding Oil on dry hair, but I prefer to put it on my ends when it’s damp then air-dry overnight, and the next day my hair feels so soft and smooth. I try not to heat style often and let my natural waves be. This oil makes heat styling optional. I recommend the Olaplex No.7. It’s good stuff.
