Two days in Amsterdam? I got you covered.
One of my favorite places in the world to visit is Amsterdam. This beautiful city has a chill vibe, cool atmosphere, and friendly people, which makes this unique place so special. I always feel at home when I’m in Amsterdam.
This year we stayed at the Best Western Premier Hotel Couture, a modern hotel at a decent price. It’s located outside the city center but the tram number 2 is conveniently located just outside the hotel and will take you to the center in 15 to 20 minutes.
If it’s your first time I suggest a going on a canal cruise. It’s an awesome way to get to know the city and its history. The view alone makes it such a worthwhile experience. If you have time, go for a walk in the Jordaan. It’s a beautiful neighborhood full of shops and restaurants, you won’t regret it.
I love to visit the red light district at night. It’s always busy and full of crowds but so worth it. It’s a fun walk and you might run into people in drag who are there for stag parties. Furthermore you’re sure to have a good laugh. What I really enjoy about the Red Light District is the junk food. They have every single junk food you can imagine in one place. When can I go back?
If you want to do something good for your body, I suggest renting some bikes and cruising down Vondelpark. My husband and I did it this year and it was so much fun. We rented ours from A-Bike just minutes away from the park. They have a friendly and efficient staff. Bike or no bike, Vondelpark is beautiful and relaxing and sometimes they offer free concerts.
For my fellow art and food lovers…
There’s always amazing art to see in Amsterdam. My two favorite museums are the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. The Rijksmuseum Research Library is pretty impressive, I could have stayed there all day. Visually it’s something out of Beauty and The Beast. Warning: Belle or Harry Potter may make an appearance.
If you love photography I recommend the Foam Fotografiemuseum. They focus on different genres such as fashion, documentary, and street photography. If you’re feeling cheeky Amsterdam is known for their sex museum, it’s quite an experience.
On our last visit we ate at Drovers Dog. They offer great food at a reasonable price and it’s in walking distance to our hotel. We ordered the ribs, fried chicken and their seasonal soup made from cauliflower, it was delicious. I heard their brunch is fantastic. For noodles, I recommend Remen-Ya in the Red Light District. Their Veggie Ramen is tasty and filling. Last but not least, try some Dutch Pancakes at Pancakes and Waffles. The pancakes are heavenly.
Finally, I had to include something beauty related right? If you fancy a haircut, head over to Oh, You Pretty Things Salon. Named after a David Bowie song, this cool salon has killer hairdressers and rock n’ roll decor. That’s a winning combination in my book!
